For those budding scientists out there (and the Leaders too) here are some experiments the pack could try or cubs can try at home (with adult supervision of course) HAVE FUN!!:

Science Labs can be incorporated into theme nights. For example the experiments listed below were incorporate into 'Darth Maul's Science Lab' at the South East Districts Millennium Camp 2000, you just need to be inventive and change the titles of each experiment to suit your theme.
**DARTH MAUL'S ROCKET PROTOTYPE** - (balloon rockets) DEMONSTRATES: Propulsion - YOU NEED: balloons, long string, drinking straw, sellotape
Place the string through the straw. Tie the string between to point, high up. e.g. between to windows. Give cubs a balloon each to blow up (do not knot the end). Leaders, using a strip of sellotape, stick the balloon onto the straw and remember do not let go of the end while you are doing this. After a countdown release the balloon, which should travel along the string. The bigger the balloon the further it will travel.
**ANAKINS WATER TRAP** - (floating paper clips) DEMONSTRATES: Surface Tension - YOU NEED: Bowl/small tank, water, paper clip, tissues and pencil. Put water in the bowl. Float one square of tissue on the water. Gently drop the paper clip onto the tissue. Slowly using the pencil push the tissue into the water. The paper clip should now be trapped in the surface tension.
**SPLITTING SOLAR RAYS** - (splitting light through milk) HELPS DEMONSTRATE: Spectrum - YOU NEED: long glass, water, milk, torch and a darkened room. Add water to glass and stir in 2 teaspoons of milk (you may need to add more if a large glass). By shining the torch into the top of the glass you should see a pale blue hue around the top, this is blue light of the spectrum. By shining the torch into the bottom of the glass you should see a pale red hue, this is red light of the spectrum.
